The Locksmith is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various locking mechanisms and security systems supporting both residential and commercial facilities. The role ensures the proper functionality and security of locks, keys, and related systems, encompassing both traditional mechanical hardware and modern electronic access control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and Maintenance: Install, repair, and maintain locks, padlocks, safes, door closures, and various security hardware.
- Inspection: Inspect locking mechanisms to identify damage, wear, or malfunctions and perform required repairs or replacements.
- Key Services: Cut and duplicate keys accurately using appropriate tools and equipment; rekey locks, create master key systems, and maintain records.
- Repair and Diagnostics: Remove broken keys from locks and repair or reprogram electronic locking systems; diagnose issues with locking mechanisms and provide timely solutions.
- Inventory and Security: Keep detailed records of keys issued and ensure access security by managing inventory control of keys and locking devices.
- Electronic Systems: Work with electronic lock systems by installing, programming, and maintaining systems such as key card access and biometric locks.
- Customer Service and Safety: Provide exceptional customer service to address lock and security concerns; follow established safety guidelines and handle tools and chemicals properly.
- Documentation: Ensure all work is documented accurately and records are filed in compliance with organizational and contractual requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience: At least two (2) years of experience as a Locksmith or in a similar role in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with various locking mechanisms, security systems, key cutting equipment, and lock control procedures.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Problem Solving: Strong diagnostic and resolution skills for complex security-related issues.
- Travel Readiness: Possession of a valid passport (valid for at least 1 year at time of hire) and ability to travel internationally.
- Medical and Readiness: Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain operational readiness for the duration of deployment.
- Authorization: Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Locksmith apprenticeship or formal technical training.
- Certification as a Locksmith or in access control systems.
- Previous experience working with U.S. government or military locking systems.
- Experience with high-security locking systems and electronic access systems.
- Proficiency in maintaining access control systems and working with master key systems.
- Familiarity with working in austere (OCONUS) or remote environments.
