Job Description
The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), also known as the Office of the Ombudsman, is a Constitutional Commission established under Article 59 (4) and Chapter Fifteen of the Constitution and the Commission on Administrative Justice Act, 2011. This internship position is located in the Kwale office and aims to provide law graduates with practical exposure to administrative justice and public service.
Role Purpose
The Legal Intern will assist the Commission in fulfilling its mandate to investigate conduct in state affairs and address public grievances. This involves direct engagement with complainants and supporting legal research and reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Complainant Screening: Screening of complainants to understand the nature of their grievances and determine the appropriate course of action.
Complaint Handling: Assisting in the processing of public complaints and the provision of legal advice to members of the public.
Legal Research: Conducting legal research on matters relating to administrative justice, constitutional law, and other legal issues as they arise.
Reporting: Compiling reports and collating data for the preparation of legal briefs and administrative summaries.
General Support: Carrying out any other duties assigned by the Commission from time to time.
Job Specification
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
