Job Description
The Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), also known as the Office of the Ombudsman, is a Constitutional Commission established under Article 59 (4) and Chapter Fifteen of the Constitution, and the Commission on Administrative Justice Act, 2011. The Commission is mandated to investigate any conduct in state affairs or any act or omission in public administration. This internship position is based in the Eldoret office and aims to provide practical legal experience within the public sector.
Role Purpose
The Legal Intern will support the Commission's mandate by assisting in legal research, complaint management, and advisory services. This is an opportunity for a law graduate to gain hands-on experience in administrative justice and legal operations.
Responsibilities
Complainant Screening: Conduct initial screening of individuals seeking assistance or lodging formal complaints.
Complaint Handling: Assist in the processing and handling of public complaints and provide preliminary legal advice to members of the public.
Legal Research: Support the team by conducting research on matters relating to administrative justice, constitutional law, and other legal issues.
Reporting: Assist in compiling detailed reports and collating relevant data for the preparation of legal briefs and submissions.
General Support: Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Commission from time to time.
Requirements
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution.
A keen interest in administrative and public law.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
