The Engineer – VAS Products Development is responsible for developing and integrating Value Added Services (VAS) products and services offered to Safaricom customers. The role aims to deliver high-quality solutions within approved schedules, covering services such as Messaging, USSD, Content delivery, Voice (RBT, IVR & Media exchange), Video, Device management, and IOT solutions.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Execution: Develop, configure, and integrate VAS solutions in line with the Digital IT strategy execution plan and participate in defining strategy, roadmaps, and architecture design.
Agile Delivery: Embrace agile methodologies with a goal of ensuring 50% of VAS projects are delivered using this approach.
Quality & Reliability: Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of assigned projects with a focus on 'First Time Right' delivery and operational viability.
DevOps Culture: Enhance processes and DevOps to improve efficiency, document products following the DevOps cycle, and ensure graceful handovers to operations teams.
Continuous Improvement: Develop and update a knowledge base of best practices for VAS development and focus on continuous process improvement.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with both Technical and Business teams for seamless deployment and align development within complex environments.
Technical Documentation: Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and adhere to established principles and standards for build and configuration.
Testing: Participate in formulating testing, maintenance, and acceptance requirements.
Professional Conduct: Uphold the company code of conduct, policies, and procedures, ensuring integrity, accountability, and adherence to safety, health, and wellbeing guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: BSc. Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or IT.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a busy telecommunication/IT environment or Software Engineering.
Technical Knowledge: Strong expertise in development for VAS solutions (Messaging, Voice, Video & IOT) and Software Engineering methodologies including Agile.
Networking & Security: Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing) and working knowledge of security encryption (SSL, firewalls, VPN, IPsec).
Systems & Databases: Experience with Unix systems and databases such as Oracle and MySQL.
Programming: Strong experience in Python, Perl, Shell, or equivalent scripting languages. Preferred knowledge in RESTful API integration, PHP, MySQL, and SQL Server.
