About the Role
Liberty Life Assurance Kenya is seeking an Actuarial Specialist for Product Development and Pricing. This role is responsible for providing actuarial support to the life insurance business, focusing on product development, pricing strategies, and contributing to the overall risk management of the company. The specialist will work closely with various business units and the Group level to ensure products are competitive, profitable, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Pricing: Actively collaborate with the business and Group to price and provide actuarial support for new products.
Pricing Basis Management: Develop and maintain the Standard Pricing Basis in liaison with the Group.
Trend Monitoring: Regularly review and monitor internal experience and trends to ensure company product pricing meets profit targets.
Methodology Enhancement: Review current pricing methodologies and bases; where appropriate, develop new pricing techniques and rating factors in coordination with the Group.
Policy Compliance: Ensure product pricing is consistent with set underwriting policies and regulatory guidance.
Risk Management: Work closely with other departments to proactively identify and implement changes to underwriting risk controls.
Contract Support: Provide analysis to support the renegotiation of existing group contracts.
System Integration: Assist system vendors in product setup within the actuarial pricing and valuation system.
Performance Analysis: Review and monitor experience on all products to inform decision-making, including profit testing of existing products.
Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports on product performance for management decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or an equivalent field with a strong emphasis on mathematical proficiency.
Professional Exams: Significant progress in the Institute of Actuaries examinations (Completion of at least 5 papers).
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in product development or actuarial valuations.
Competencies and Skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in statistical techniques and techniques.
Proficient knowledge of the insurance industry in Kenya.
Knowledge of statistical packages or programming.
Familiarity with relevant actuarial guidelines.
