Old Mutual Kenya is looking for an Underwriter to enforce underwriting controls, manage documentation, and ensure the profitability of the department through quality business on-boarding and excellent customer service. The role involves implementing underwriting guidelines and procedures to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Underwriting Controls & Compliance: Enforce underwriting controls including on-boarding, certificates, and business booking. Ensure strict adherence to underwriting guidelines, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the authority matrix.
Data & Documentation: Maintain clean and accurate data capture. Process and check underwriting documents, including the issuing and signing of Motor Certificates and Yellow cards. Ensure the registry is fully maintained and orderly.
Financial Operations: Handle timely preparation of quotations and follow-ups. Manage the debiting of premiums, process refunds within set timelines, and adhere strictly to the credit control policy.
Customer Service & Retention: Provide high-quality service to all clients. Follow up on renewals to ensure maximum retention of profitable accounts and identify cross-selling or up-selling opportunities.
Operational Support: Ensure work is completed within set Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Turnaround Times (TAT). Prepare relevant reports for management and departmental use.
Risk Management: Adhere to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) guidelines. Manage the safekeeping of security documents and handle daily scanning and indexing of mail.
Additional Duties: Initiate motor valuations and follow up as necessary. Perform any other duties required by management.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: A Bachelor's degree in a business-related course, preferably in Insurance.
Professional Certification: ACII or AIIK qualification is highly desirable and will be an added advantage.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in an underwriting role.
Knowledge: Familiarity with AML and PEP guidelines, credit control policies, and general insurance products.
