Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a Tutorial Fellow in Subject Methods Geography to join the School of Education. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline, and contribute to the school's research objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean, School of Education, the duties and responsibilities include:
Adherence to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum.
Administration of Continuous Assessments Tests (CATs).
Examination setting, administration, and marking.
Delivering high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials and actual delivery of the curriculum in class.
Keeping abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of Geography to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery.
Reviewing content, methods of delivery, and learning materials for improvement.
Guiding students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Ensuring accurate student records (registers, reports, assessment) are updated in the Academic Management System.
Identifying sources of funding through grant writing to advance the research portfolio of the school.
Engaging in publishing papers and attending/participating in workshops, conferences, and professional seminars.
Collaborating with other researchers internally and internationally to establish research linkages.
Undertaking administrative duties including leadership of academic programmes or committee memberships as requested.
Requirements
Must be registered for a PhD in the area of specialization (Geography/Education).
Master’s Degree in a relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Bachelor of Education (Arts/Science).
Registration by a relevant professional body.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University level.
