Job Description
Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The university is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Tutorial Fellow for Subject Methods in Christian Religious Education (CRE). The successful candidate will report to the Dean, School of Education, and will be responsible for delivering high-quality learning experiences, conducting research, and performing administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Delivery: Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, class methodology or activities, and actual delivery of the curriculum in class.
Curriculum Adherence: Adhere to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum and ensure that content and learning materials meet defined objectives, regularly reviewing them for improvement.
Assessment and Marking: Oversee the setting, administration, and marking of examinations and Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) to ensure timely student assessment.
Research and Supervision: Guide students at undergraduate and graduate levels in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development, and supervision.
Professional Development: Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline to shape curriculum content and design.
Academic Records: Maintain and update accurate student records, including registers, reports, and assessment achievements in the Academic Management System.
Funding and Publishing: Identify sources of funding through grant writing and engage in publishing papers, attending workshops, and presenting at professional seminars.
Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external researchers to establish linkages and contribute to the school’s research objectives.
Administrative Support: Perform administrative duties as required, including leadership of academic programs and participation in various committees.
Qualifications and Requirements
Must be registered for a PhD in the area of specialization.
Possession of a Master’s Degree in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized academic institution.
Possession of a Bachelor of Education (Arts/Science).
Must be registered by a relevant professional body.
At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University level.
