Role Overview
As the Social Media Officer at Mogo Finance, you will serve as a cultural navigator, visual storyteller, and market scout. Reporting directly to the Senior Content Strategist, you will be the heartbeat of the company's digital presence, ensuring the brand effectively communicates with diverse audiences ranging from local street culture to professional boardrooms. You will be responsible for spotting emerging trends, ideating high-impact content, and capturing the energy of on-ground activations across Kenya.
Key Responsibilities
Social-First Ideation & Content Creation
- Trend Jacking: Monitor daily social conversations to identify emerging trends, memes, and cultural moments, pivoting them into brand-relevant content.
- Mobile Cinematography: Capture high-quality photo and video content using mobile devices during events and ad-hoc office moments.
- Copywriting Mastery: Write compelling captions in fluent English, Swahili, Sheng, and Swanglish tailored to specific platforms and audiences.
- Creative Input: Participate in weekly creative sprints to brainstorm innovative campaign angles.
Market Intelligence & Competitor Scanning
- Weekly Vibe Check: Conduct audits of competitors in the asset finance and mobility space to identify audience engagement gaps.
- Feature Tracking: Stay updated on new platform tools (e.g., Instagram stickers, YouTube algorithm shifts) to ensure first-to-market implementation.
Asset Management & Production Support
- Raw Library Ownership: Organize and tag raw mobile footage and photos from events for use by Design and Video Production teams.
Platform Management & Strategy
- Primary Ownership: Execute daily strategies for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to ensure consistent growth and engagement.
- Secondary Support: Maintain a reactive presence on TikTok and X (Twitter).
- Social-First Thinking: Optimize every piece of content for its specific platform (e.g., hooks for Reels vs. community building on Facebook).
Performance, Reporting & Paid Media
- Insights to Action: Analyze weekly and monthly reports to explain content performance and inform future creative strategies.
- Paid Media Literacy: Assist the performance team with knowledge of boosted posts to amplify organic wins.
On-Ground & Event Coverage
- Travel: Travel outside Nairobi (with provided flights and hotels) to cover regional activations and branch launches.
- Live Coverage: Lead live event coverage to engage followers in real-time.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A BA/BSc/HND degree in a relevant field.
- Digital Native: Deep familiarity with social media nuances and Kenyan digital sub-cultures.
- Linguistic Versatility: Native-level command of Sheng and Swahili; professional-level English.
- Technical Skill: Proven ability to edit videos using CapCut or InShot and take aesthetic mobile photos.
- Mindset: Innately curious, growth-oriented, and resilient in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel: Ready to travel at short notice for regional activations.
