Kirinyaga University (KyU), located approximately 115 Km North East of Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy. The successful candidate will join the academic staff to provide high-level educational leadership, conduct significant research, and contribute to the growth of the Department and Faculty through administrative and community service roles.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Evaluation: Conduct lectures and evaluate both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Examination Management: Setting, moderating, administering, processing, and marking university examinations.
Mentorship: Provide academic advising and mentoring to students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Research and Publication: Initiate, promote, and conduct research; publish findings in refereed scholarly journals.
Supervision: Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research activities and theses.
Curriculum Development: Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula within the Department.
Institutional Development: Contribute to Department and Faculty development plans and participate in resource mobilization and linkage initiation.
Administrative Duties: Attend departmental meetings and perform other administrative responsibilities as assigned by the university management.
Community Service: Participate in professional and community service initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Philosophy or a relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.
Professional Registration: Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer, OR six (6) years of research/industry experience.
Research Output: A minimum of forty (40) publication points as a Lecturer (or equivalent), with at least fifteen (15) points specifically from refereed scholarly journals.
Supervision: Successfully supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion in the capacity of a Lecturer or equivalent.
