Job Description
The Senior Employee Relations Manager is responsible for formulating and implementing the Employee Relations and Wellness HR Strategy within their designated area. This role involves implementing Group HR policies, advising on complex employee matters such as disciplinary processes and grievances, and safeguarding the organization against legal and reputational risks. The manager also handles staff separations, manages internal lawsuits involving former staff, and maintains vital relationships with internal and external stakeholders including trade unions and industry bodies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Policy Implementation: Formulate input for the Employee Relations and Wellness HR Strategy and implement Group HR policies, procedures, and processes. Provide guidance to staff and line management on policy execution.
Employee Matters and Investigations: Advise on complex employee issues, including disciplinary processes, grievances, and dispute resolution. In liaison with the Forensic Department or other relevant departments, investigate or coordinate the investigation of staff cases relating to disciplinary and grievance matters through to determination.
Staff Separation and Legal Management: Manage staff separation procedures and communications, ensuring adherence to internal policies and statutory requirements. Internally manage lawsuits involving former staff by liaising with the legal department, collating evidence, and contacting witnesses.
Stakeholder Management: Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Heads of HR, trade unions, medical and wellness bodies, industry organizations (Kenya Bankers Association, Federation of Kenya Employers), and legal counsel.
Administrative and Secretarial Support: Prepare substantive management papers, reports, briefs, and proposals. Provide secretarial support for business and staff committees, including Disciplinary and Grievance Handling Committees and Union/Management Meetings.
Data Management: Maintain accurate and consistent data, records, and statistics relating to the HR area.
Requirements and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or a Business-related field (Required). A Master’s Degree in HR or a Business-related field is an added advantage.
Professional Qualification: Professional qualification in HR (Certificate, Diploma, Higher Diploma, or Postgraduate Diploma) is required.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years’ progressive experience in Human Resources or a related field.
