The Aga Khan Academy Nairobi, operated by the Aga Khan Education Service Kenya (AKESK), is seeking a dedicated Music Teacher. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality and vibrant lessons that enable students to be highly imaginative, challenge perceptions, and develop creative and analytical skills. The role is pivotal in shaping students' musical education and fostering an appreciation for music within the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. The candidate should be dedicated to nurturing musical talents, promoting global awareness, and aligning teaching with the values and principles of the IB programme.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum aligning with IB standards and philosophy, incorporating inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and international-mindedness.
Extracurricular Leadership: Play a leading role in extracurricular musical and expressive arts events and opportunities.
Instructional Delivery: Deliver engaging and effective music instruction across various grade levels, covering theory, history, performance, composition, and appreciation.
Inclusive Teaching: Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet diverse needs, including different learning styles and abilities.
Assessment: Use varied assessments, including formative and summative evaluations, in line with International Baccalaureate Organization requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage parents regularly and effectively in their children's education.
Evaluation: Accurately evaluate and comment on both the ability and developmental potential of each student.
Professionalism: Demonstrate high professional values, modern pedagogy, and a commitment to the vision and philosophy of the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts with Education (Music) or an equivalent degree in the respective field.
Valid registration/certification with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
At least 3 years of experience teaching within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or IB Diploma Programme (DP).
Previous teaching experience specifically in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) is highly desirable.
