Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a fully fledged chartered university committed to a broad-based, wholistic and inclusive system of education. The Media Technologist will be responsible for supporting the School of Education by managing instructional technology resources and specialized laboratory facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Management: Prepare, operate, and maintain facilities and equipment in the Micro-Teaching Laboratory, Media Resource Centre, Language Laboratory, and Geography Laboratory.
Technical Support: Provide technical support for teaching practice simulations, including recording, playback, and analysis of sessions.
Classroom Technology: Manage and support Smart Classrooms and ICT-enabled teaching spaces, ensuring reliable use of projectors, interactive boards, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Resource Coordination: Oversee the acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, and maintenance of media resources in the Media Resource Centre and School Library.
Faculty & Student Training: Train faculty and student-teachers in instructional technologies, Blackboard (BB) skills, smartboard use, and classroom presentation techniques.
Digital Literacy Support: Support learners in information retrieval, digital literacy, and academic referencing, integrating e-learning and digital platforms into teaching and learning.
Equipment Safety & Maintenance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols and manage the storage, security, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory and media equipment.
Requirements and Qualifications
Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree in Education Technology, Bachelor of Technology Education (BTech), Instructional Technology, Multimedia, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
At least 3 years’ relevant experience working in a University media resource center or instructional technology setting.
OR
Option 2:
Diploma in Multimedia or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
At least 5 years’ relevant experience working in a University media resource center or instructional technology setting.
General Skills:
Computer literacy and proficiency in the use of instructional software and audio-visual equipment.
