Kirinyaga University is seeking a qualified academic to join its faculty as a Lecturer in Sociology. The successful candidate will be involved in teaching, research, and administrative tasks within the Department of Sociology to ensure high academic standards and students' academic growth.
Responsibilities
Teaching and evaluating undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Setting, moderating, administering, processing, and marking examinations.
Providing academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Developing comprehensive teaching and learning materials.
Supervising research activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Developing research proposals to secure funding.
Participating in professional meetings, seminars, and conferences to build inter-disciplinary collaboration.
Contributing to the preparation of strategic plans for the Department and Faculty.
Organizing and supervising educational activities.
Participating in administrative, academic, and consultancy activities within the university and other organizations.
Contributing to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Department's curricula.
Attending departmental meetings and contributing to the efficient management of the Faculty.
Undertaking any other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Sociology from an accredited and recognized university.
Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the relevant professional body where applicable.
Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Sociology from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) with at least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level, in research, or in the industry.
A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, with at least ten (10) from refereed journal papers.
