Kirinyaga University (KyU) is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Lecturer in Medical Surgical or Pediatric Nursing. This role is fundamental to the university's mission of providing high-quality training and research. The successful candidate will join the nursing department to provide academic leadership, mentor students, and contribute to the advancement of nursing science through research and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Instruction: Conduct teaching and evaluation of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students.
Examination Management: Oversee the setting, moderating, administering, processing, and marking of examinations.
Mentorship: Provide academic advising and mentoring to both undergraduate and postgraduate students to support their academic and professional growth.
Curriculum & Materials: Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental curricula and create innovative teaching/learning materials.
Research & Supervision: Supervise students in their research activities and develop research proposals to secure funding.
Collaboration: Build inter-disciplinary collaborations and participate in professional meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
Strategic Support: Assist in the preparation of Department and Faculty strategic plans and undertake administrative duties as assigned by university management.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in Medical Surgical or Pediatric Nursing (or a relevant field) from an accredited and recognized university.
Professional Status: Must be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (e.g., Nursing Council of Kenya).
Alternative Qualifications: Candidates with a Master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university (in special cases) will be considered if they possess at least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level or relevant experience in research or industry.
Research Output: A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points, with at least ten (10) points derived from refereed journal papers.
