The Kiswahili Teacher will plan, deliver and assess engaging Kiswahili language lessons for nursery and early primary learners. The role focuses on building a strong foundation in language fluency, literacy and communication while nurturing an appreciation for Kiswahili culture through interactive and age-appropriate learning approaches.
The teacher will create stimulating classroom experiences using songs, storytelling, play-based learning and collaborative activities that support early language acquisition. Working closely with colleagues and parents, the teacher will monitor learner progress, provide individualized support where needed and contribute to a nurturing and inclusive learning environment aligned with the Aga Khan Education Service’s commitment to holistic, values-based education.
Key Responsibilities
Lesson Planning & Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Kiswahili lessons that promote language fluency, literacy, and cultural appreciation.
Material Development: Develop lesson plans, teaching aids, and instructional materials appropriate for early learners.
Interactive Pedagogy: Incorporate interactive learning approaches such as songs, storytelling, and play-based activities.
Student Support: Provide individualized support to learners, including non-native Kiswahili speakers.
Assessment: Assess learner progress through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student progress and prepare reports for parents and school leadership.
Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to enhance language instruction and share teaching resources.
Co-curricular Activities: Support programs such as cultural events, music, poetry, and storytelling initiatives.
Professional Development: Participate in school meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning activities.
Requirements
Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Education (Early Childhood Education or Primary Education with a Kiswahili specialization) from a recognized institution.
Licensure: Must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Experience: A minimum of 3 years teaching experience, preferably in early years or lower primary levels.
Instructional Skills: Demonstrated ability to teach Kiswahili effectively to young learners using child-centered and activity-based learning approaches.
Tech Literacy: Strong proficiency in integrating technology as a teaching and learning tool.
