Africa Nazarene University (ANU) is an American private Christian University in Nairobi, Kenya, and an affiliate of The Church of the Nazarene Colleges and Universities around the world. ANU is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Lecturer in the Computer Science department.
Role Overview
The Lecturer is responsible for delivering quality instruction, contributing to curriculum development, and engaging in scholarly research within the field of Computer Science. The role involves a mix of teaching, administrative duties, and student mentorship to ensure high academic standards and student success.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching & Assessment: Deliver quality teaching, assessment, and feedback. Employ various teaching methods (field studies, group activities, assignments, laboratory sessions, etc.) to enhance student learning.
Curriculum Development: Engage in curriculum review and program improvement; contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
Course Management: Review course outlines, develop lesson plans, and prepare course materials. Ensure timely upload of all materials to the Learning Management System (LMS).
Student Assessment: Develop assessment plans; set, pre-moderate, administer, mark, and post-moderate exams and assignments. Ensure grades are correctly entered into the system.
Supervision: Supervise undergraduate or graduate teaching, internships, and research work.
Research & Publication: Conduct research in the field and publish findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
Administrative Support: Attend meetings and perform other administrative duties as assigned. Provide timely data/reports to the Chair of Department and supporting functions (Registrar, Examinations, etc.).
Student Advising: Maintain a schedule for academic and career advising and communicate this to students.
Professional Development: Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and participate in industrial linkages or outreach visits.
Quality Assurance: Participate in evaluations, peer reviews, and self-assessments to maintain academic integrity and ethical practice.
Requirements and Qualifications
Experience: At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a lecturer OR five (5) years of research/industry experience with a track record of securing research funds.
Publications: A minimum of twenty-four (24) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
Teaching Skills: Demonstrated teaching skills as evidenced by student evaluations and peer reviews.
Pedagogy: Conversant with online teaching methodologies and digital pedagogy.
Leadership: Demonstrated evidence of success in major non-teaching responsibilities at a university or reputable organization is an added advantage.
Academic Background: Qualification in Computer Science or a related field (noted as BA/BSc/HND in posting, though higher degrees are typical for university lecturing).
