This is an entry and training grade for the Weights and Measures Officer cadre. An officer at this level will work under the guidance of a senior officer to ensure fairness and accuracy in trade transactions through the regulation of weighing and measuring equipment. The role involves technical inspections, verification, and legal enforcement of standards as per the Weights and Measures Act.
Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Testing and Stamping: Testing and stamping both mechanical and electronic weighing and measuring equipment to verify accuracy.
Data Collection: Collecting data on verified equipment at traders' premises, stamping stations, and verification offices.
Quantitative Analysis: Sampling pre-packaged goods for quantitative analysis to ensure compliance with trade descriptions.
Equipment Maintenance: Preparing testing equipment for inspection and investigation purposes.
Exhibition Participation: Preparing weighing and measuring equipment for use during trade fairs and exhibitions.
Legal Evidence: Giving evidence in court on cases arising from infringements of the Weights and Measures Act (Cap 513) and Trade Descriptions Act (Cap 505).
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
A Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Mathematics, Legal Metrology, Information Communication Technology (ICT), or an equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya.
