Wananchi Group is looking for a Head of Engineering - Fiber Network Operations to lead the design, planning, optimization, deployment, and operational excellence of the company's fiber network infrastructure across East Africa. This strategic leadership role oversees engineering strategy and performance across TV platforms, access networks, IP networks, voice systems, transport networks, and network planning functions to ensure high service availability, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, planning, and optimization of the fiber network infrastructure across East Africa.
Oversee the deployment and ensure operational excellence of the network.
Manage the engineering strategy for TV platforms, including IPTV, OTT, CDN, and Video Headend.
Ensure high service availability and performance for access networks, IP networks, voice systems, and transport networks.
Drive network planning functions to support business scalability and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience
Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in telecom/network engineering.
Leadership: Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership or management role overseeing multi-domain network operations.
Industry Knowledge: Strong experience in fiber network operations within ISP, Telecom, or Pay-TV environments.
Technical Expertise: Robust experience with HFC and GPON technologies.
Regional Scope: Proven regional or multi-country operational leadership experience is preferred.
Education: BA/BSc/HND in a relevant field.
Technical Proficiencies
Fiber Access Technologies: HFC, FTTH, GPON, XGS-PON, Metro Ethernet.
TV Platforms: IPTV, OTT, Middleware, CDN, Video Headend.
IP Networking: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Core/Edge Routing, Traffic Engineering.
Voice Technologies: VoIP, SIP, IMS, SBC.
Transport Networks: DWDM, SDH, Microwave, Carrier Ethernet.
