Role Overview
The Senior Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating and decisioning credit proposals for the Corporate and Mortgage business units. This role involves assessing credit risk in line with specific guidelines, ensuring compliance with internal KCB Credit policies and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Prudential guidelines, and maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency in credit evaluation. The analyst plays a crucial role in monitoring portfolio performance and providing strategic insights through industrial and peer analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Credit Evaluation: Evaluate and decision credit proposals, including new applications, renewals, one-offs, and amendments for Corporate and Mortgage business units. Recommend proposals beyond delegated lending authority (DLA) for further consideration.
- Risk Assessment: Verify and analyze credit documentation such as bank statements and financial records provided by Relationship Managers or customers. Seek clarifications from external sources when necessary.
- Policy and Process Development: Support the creation and update of credit processes, policies, manuals, and product standards specific to Corporate and Mortgage business.
- Client Engagement: Conduct site visits to clients, centers, or branches independently or with Relationship Managers to gain a better understanding of the client's business and market environment.
- Compliance and Audit: Address audit requirements and provide a response to audit remarks, ensuring rectification within the Corporate and Mortgage Credit Unit.
- Portfolio Monitoring: Monitor portfolios for renewals, limit expiries, early vintage performance, migration, and Portfolio at Risk (PAR).
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare industrial reports and peer analysis papers based on business, operational, and financial indicators sourced from industry reviews, credit reports, and relevant media.
Qualifications and Experience
- Academic Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field is required.
- Professional Qualifications: ACIB or CPA(K) certifications are considered an added advantage.
- Advanced Education: A Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.
- Total Experience: Minimum of 8 years total work experience.
- Specialized Experience Breakdown:
- 8 years in Credit Analysis (Essential).
- 5 years in Risk Management (Desired).
- 3 years in General Banking (Essential).
- 3 years in Debt Recovery (Desired).
- 3 years in Managing Teams (Essential).
