Role Overview
Mhasibu Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited (Mhasibu SACCO) is looking for a Risk Officer to proactively identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate risks within the SACCO. The primary objective of this role is to ensure safe operations, protect members’ funds, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure the financial sustainability of the organization. The position operates in strict adherence to SASRA guidelines, the Cooperative Societies Act, and other relevant legal frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management Strategy: Develop and execute a risk management strategy while monitoring the SACCO’s strategic plan to prevent, reduce, and mitigate all risk aspects.
Business Continuity: Monitor internal and external risk factors and ensure regular review and maintenance of the organization’s Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
Risk Identification: Identify emerging risks arising from current and new regulations, products and services, diverse customer segments, and transactional channels.
Evaluation: Evaluate identified and potential risks to determine their likelihood and potential impact on the SACCO.
Compliance & Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and maintain risk registers in compliance with SASRA guidelines, the Cooperative Societies Act, and all other applicable regulations.
Reporting Framework: Development and implementation of a risk monitoring and reporting framework, including strategies to mitigate and control risks.
Operational Reviews: Conduct risk assessments for both proposed and existing units/branches across all risk categories.
Stakeholder Reporting: Develop and present risk reports to management and the Board of Directors outlining risk exposure and recommended mitigation strategies.
Internal Controls: Work closely with internal audit and compliance teams to review and strengthen internal control systems.
Risk Culture: Promote a risk-aware culture within the organization by educating staff on risk management policies and best practices.
Other Duties: Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Management and Board of Directors.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited and recognized institution.
Professional Certifications: A professional qualification in risk-related certifications, CPA (K), or ACCA.
Added Advantage Certifications: Professional certifications in Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), ICA Certifications, Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Professional Risk Manager (PRM), or IRM Certifications.
Professional Membership: Registered member of ICPAK or a relevant professional body.
Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in risk, audit, and compliance functions, specifically within regulated financial institutions.
Compliance: Successful candidates must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya by obtaining the necessary documentation.
