Makini Schools is a leader in the Kenyan system of education, drawing on global best practices across five campuses in Nairobi and Kisumu. We are seeking a Reliever Music Teacher for a maternity cover position at Makini High School. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the school's ethos, delivering high-quality music education, and ensuring that students' learning and social needs are met through effective planning and assessment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ethos and Environment: Endeavour to maintain and develop the ethos of the school in accordance with the directions given by the Directors and the Principal. Provide a stimulating classroom environment where resources can be accessed appropriately by all students.
Teaching and Learning: Teach a class of students and ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment and reporting meet their varying learning and social needs. Plan appropriately to meet the needs of all students through differentiation of tasks and set clear targets based on prior attainment.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Contribute to constructive team-building amongst teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and the Directors. Support initiatives decided by the Principal and other staff.
Administrative Duties: Implement agreed school policies and guidelines in consultation with the Principal. Keep appropriate and efficient records of work, integrating formative and summative assessment into weekly and termly planning. Report to parents on the development, progress and attainment of students.
Student Management: Maintain good order and discipline amongst students in accordance with the school’s behavior policy. Ensure prompt and regular attendance of students and report any absence to the Principal or Deputy Principal.
Professionalism: Participate in meetings relating to school management, curriculum, and administration. Engage in the performance management system and attend staff meetings, seminars, and co-curricular events. Promote a professional image through appropriate dress and conduct.
Support and Supervision: Lead, organize and direct support staff within the classroom. Carry out supervisory duties as required and assist with out-of-school activities.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Education - Music or its equivalent from a recognized University/Institution.
Certification: Must be a registered member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Experience: A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a recognized school.
