As a Relationship Manager for Institutional Banking, you will primarily focus on managing and growing a portfolio of clients in various sectors, including Education, NGOs, Religious Bodies, Professional firms, and Non-banking Financial Institutions (Saccos). Your main objective is to drive liability growth and transactional income through proactive business development and exceptional relationship management.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Business Development (55%)
Focus on Institutional Banking clients in sectors such as Education, NGOs, Religious Bodies, Professional firms, and Non-banking Financial Institutions (Saccos).
Drive Liability growth and transactional income.
Work with Cash Management and other Product teams to prepare proposals and presentations for key target clients.
Maintain Relationship Plans for all customers in the portfolio to prioritize contact.
Conduct annual and if appropriate, interim reviews of customers' borrowing and non-borrowing facilities.
Communicate key messages regarding service standards, pricing, and product changes.
Resolve customer complaints and find effective solutions.
Identify and sell products that meet customer needs reactively and proactively.
Research and follow up on target lists for potential new business.
Formulate business development strategies and objectives to meet changing market needs.
Monitor team conformance to relationship development procedures and service quality standards.
Proactively research competitive threats and opportunities within the market.
Champion a culture of change for consistent sales and service performance.
Sales & Service (30%)
Identify priority customers using Customer Relationship Planning templates.
Gather and process essential information for credit applications in collaboration with Assistant Relationship Managers and CCM resources.
Maintain portfolio quality by adhering to Risk management guidelines and internal policies.
Agree on sales and service targets for the team and manage performance against key targets.
Implement and monitor change programs impacting the sub-team.
Consult with customer managers on financial/credit issues and general business practices.
People Management (5%)
Provide day-to-day coaching and development for Assistant Relationship Managers.
Lead the team using a team-based management approach.
Help team members identify strengths and weaknesses and support their self-development plans.
Coach team members on relationship development, service quality, and risk.
Review and input into Performance Development Reviews.
Risk & Control / Personal Development (10%)
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa Bank Kenya Policies.
Understand and manage risks and risk events relevant to the role.
Set personal development goals and participate in continuous learning to stay updated on industry specializations.
Knowledge, Expertise, and Experience
Mandatory Requirements
ACIB (Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers) qualification or equivalent.
A degree from a reputable institution.
Essential Knowledge
Detailed knowledge of Business Banking products and a broad understanding of other Absa products.
Knowledge of requirements for sophisticated customers and complex products.
Understanding of national policies and strategies related to the customer base.
Working knowledge of core services including Trade, money transmission, and Electronic Banking.
Strong commercial awareness and customer focus.
Knowledge of internal bank departments, systems, and procedures.
Understanding of wider Bank issues and relevant legislation.
