Job Purpose
The Credit Analyst will support the Head of Credit in planning, coordinating, and controlling all lending activities to minimize credit risks. The role involves preparing independent analyses of credit reviews and submitting summaries to ensure the bank maintains a healthy and compliant loan portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Review loan files to ensure compliance with all approval conditions.
Perform weekly analysis of loan-book performance and risk, including loan-book migration analysis.
Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) in all business segments on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Conduct quality checks at branches to ensure adherence to the bank’s credit policy, CBK prudential guidelines, and best practices in appraisal and approval.
Generate accurate management reports on business performance to facilitate decision-making.
Collaborate with business teams to provide training on credit applications and portfolio management.
Assess temporary credit requests and provide recommendations for approval.
Propose changes to lending policies in line with evolving business dynamics.
Verify the completeness of documents submitted by business segment credit analysts and branch managers.
Provide coaching and guidance on credit policies and procedures to branch staff and other stakeholders.
Notify branch staff or relationship officers immediately regarding any missing documentation based on the credit checklist.
Analyze customer documentation to understand the existing state of operations.
Regularly analyze the risk profile of the bank’s loan portfolio by product and segment.
Assign risk grades for each portfolio type following the guidelines in the bank’s credit policy manual.
Ensure timely approval of all credit applications and preparation of various credit reports.
Review and update credit policies and new/existing products in line with lending environment changes.
Maintain strict compliance with both internal policies and external regulatory requirements (CBK) and set SLAs.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
KCSE Performance: Must have scored a minimum of C+ in overall KCSE exams and Mathematics.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in lending-related activities within the financial sector.
Certifications: Professional banking qualifications (e.g., AKIB) will be an added advantage.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of lending products and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) prudential guidelines.
