Pulmonologist

Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage conditions such as asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infections, and pulmonary hypertension.
• Perform and interpret specialized procedures including spirometry, full Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), and bronchoscopies within the credentialed scope.
• Provide expert advice on ventilatory support and maintain liaison with the ICU for patients with respiratory failure.
• Collaborate with thoracic surgery, oncology, allergy, and rheumatology services for complex medical cases.
• Implement and oversee pulmonary rehabilitation and smoking cessation initiatives.
• Develop and implement clinical protocols and care pathways for pulmonary conditions.
• Teach and mentor medical trainees and participate in clinical audits and quality improvement programs.
• Engage in research and surveillance regarding respiratory disease trends.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
• MMed in Internal Medicine from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
• Fellowship or sub-specialty training in Pulmonology or Respiratory Medicine recognized by KMPDC.
• Valid registration and recognition as a specialist/sub-specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
• Current retention in the KMPDC register with a valid Practice License.
• Valid Professional Indemnity Cover.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
