Role Overview
The Pharmaceutical Technologist at Equity Afya is responsible for the safe, legal, and efficient dispensing of medications. This role ensures strict compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) regulations and institutional policies, while maintaining high standards of patient care, inventory management, and business development within a retail pharmacy setting.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing and Patient Care
Accurately dispense prescription and Over-the-Counter (OTC) medications.
Interpret prescriptions and verify their legality and completeness according to PPB and institutional guidelines.
Provide comprehensive patient counseling on safe medication use, including dosage, administration, storage, and potential side effects.
Promote rational medication use and antimicrobial stewardship.
Consult with prescribers or follow institutional procedures for complex or ambiguous clinical queries.
Maintain accurate documentation for patient care and stock management in line with policy.
Adhere to institutional pharmacovigilance protocols and reporting procedures.
Inventory Management and Business Development
Monitor stock levels and expiries closely to ensure efficient inventory management.
Support procurement processes and verify the receipt of stocks.
Ensure all medications are stored according to PPB and manufacturer-recommended conditions.
Implement measures to minimize stock losses, pilferage, and expiries.
Drive the achievement of pharmacy sales and service targets.
Propose and participate in health promotion campaigns within the retail pharmacy.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
Licensing: Registered and licensed by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) with a valid annual Practicing License.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a retail pharmacy environment is preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of essential medications and pharmacy practice standards.
Soft Skills: Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Integrity: High level of ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism.
Systems: Basic literacy in financial and Information Management systems, particularly Point of Sale (POS) software.
Work Ethic: Ability to work with minimal supervision and a self-motivated approach to meeting targets.
