Job Description
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is seeking a qualified Psychiatrist to join its medical team. The hospital is a leading National Referral Hospital with a 650-bed capacity, offering specialized services including Oncology, Trauma & Orthopedics, and Renal care. The Psychiatrist will provide comprehensive mental health services, ensuring holistic patient care through assessment, therapy, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Psychiatric Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive evaluations and formulate biopsychosocial management plans for patients.
Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, manage side effects, and ensure patient adherence to treatment.
Psychotherapy: Provide direct psychotherapy or coordinate referrals to appropriate psychological services.
Crisis Intervention: Deliver emergency crisis intervention and liaison psychiatry services across various hospital departments.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work with teams including psychologists, nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists to provide holistic care.
Medico-Legal Services: Perform medico-legal assessments and provide professional reports or testimony as needed.
Community Outreach: Participate in mental health promotion and initiatives aimed at reducing stigma in the community.
Education & Research: Supervise and teach junior staff/students and participate in research and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Psychiatry from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
Additional sub-specialty training (e.g., child & adolescent, addiction, or liaison psychiatry) is an added advantage.
Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Recognition as a specialist or sub-specialist by KMPDC.
Valid Practice License and retention in the KMPDC register.
Valid Professional Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
