Role Overview
The Port Control Tower Watch is responsible for managing and monitoring marine traffic to ensure safe and orderly harbor operations. The role involves enforcing marine ordinances, maintaining communication with vessels, and coordinating emergency responses when necessary.
Principal Accountabilities
Assist in the enforcement of marine ordinances and related studies.
Operate communication networks (nets) for all marine traffic.
Ensure all logbooks and records are accurately maintained.
Record the movements of all vessels entering and exiting the harbor.
Communicate vessel departure times clearly.
Arrange and coordinate requests for emergency assistance.
Maintain orderly and safe boating conditions and enforce local marine regulations.
Supervise the maintenance of navigational aids such as markers, buoys, and floats.
Submit requisitions for the procurement of harbor equipment.
Assign mooring spaces for powerboats and sailboats.
Survey and record statistics (number, size, and types) of boats using harbor facilities.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in law enforcement, marine conservation, marine construction, marine transportation, marine maintenance, commercial fishing, or service as a merchant or United States Navy seaman.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Marine Conservation, Marine Transportation, Marine Maintenance, or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
Possession of a current United States Coast Guard Master’s license is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Thorough knowledge of the operational and maintenance requirements of harbor facilities and equipment.
Proficiency in nautical calculations and terminology.
Ability to plan and supervise personnel to ensure high performance and morale.
Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with officials and boat operators.
Ability to enforce local marine ordinances with both tact and firmness.
Physical capability to work outdoors in warm and rainy environments.
