Job Description
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is a leading National Referral Hospital with a 650-bed capacity, equipped with state-of-the-art medical amenities. The Paediatric Ophthalmologist will be responsible for providing specialized paediatric eye care, including the management of complex conditions such as strabismus, congenital cataracts, and retinopathy of prematurity.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive paediatric eye assessments, including orthoptic evaluations and age-appropriate visual acuity testing.
Diagnose and manage various paediatric ocular disorders and perform surgeries such as paediatric cataract and strabismus procedures within the credentialed scope.
Coordinate Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening and treatment in collaboration with NICU teams and retinal services.
Provide guidance and follow-up for low-vision and amblyopia therapy.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including paediatrics, neurology, and rehabilitation, for complex cases.
Support public health initiatives, outreach programs, and screening activities in paediatric eye care.
Provide teaching and mentorship to trainees in the field of paediatric ophthalmology.
Participate in clinical audits, registries, and research projects to improve outcomes in paediatric eye care.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Ophthalmology from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
Fellowship or sub-specialty training in Paediatric Ophthalmology (or equivalent) from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Recognition as a specialist or sub-specialist by KMPDC.
Retention in the KMPDC register with a valid Practice License.
Possession of a valid Professional Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Compliance with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
