Job Description
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is seeking a Paediatric Oncologist to provide specialized diagnosis, treatment, and longitudinal follow-up for childhood cancers. The role involves integrating chemotherapy and multimodal care within the hospital's oncology and paediatric programs to ensure comprehensive patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
Evaluate and diagnose paediatric malignancies using clinical assessment, imaging, and pathology.
Plan and administer systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) per established protocols while monitoring patient response and toxicities.
Coordinate multimodal care by collaborating with surgery, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and other supportive services.
Provide both inpatient and outpatient oncology services, including the emergency management of oncologic complications.
Counsel families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, informed consent, and survivorship care plans.
Participate actively in tumour boards, protocol development, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support medical data collection, contribute to cancer registries, and participate in clinical research or trials where available.
Teach and mentor medical trainees and contribute to community awareness and early cancer detection initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Master of Medicine (MMed) in Paediatrics and Child Health or an equivalent qualification recognized by KMPDC.
Sub-specialty training in Paediatric Oncology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Valid registration and recognition as a specialist/sub-specialist by the KMPDC.
Current retention in the KMPDC register and a valid Practice License.
Possession of a valid Professional Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical records.
Must be compliant with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
