Job Description
Role Overview
Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH) is seeking a Paediatric Neurologist to provide expert diagnosis and management of neurological disorders in children. The role involves supporting multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental care within a state-of-the-art 650-bed National Referral Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assess and manage various neurological conditions including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, neuromuscular diseases, headaches, neuro-infections, and genetic conditions.
Interpret EEG, neuroimaging, and relevant neuro-diagnostics, and coordinate necessary follow-up testing.
Provide both inpatient and outpatient consultations, including emergency neurological care for pediatric patients.
Collaborate with Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychology to develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans.
Counsel families regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and long-term management strategies, including transition planning to adult care.
Participate in teaching, mentorship, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities within the hospital.
Engage in clinical audits, registries, and research initiatives focused on paediatric neurology.
Contribute to the development of protocols and quality improvement measures for neurology services.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an institution recognized by KMPDC.
MMed in Paediatrics and Child Health or an equivalent qualification from a KMPDC-recognized institution.
Fellowship or certification in Paediatric Neurology (or equivalent) recognized by KMPDC.
Current registration and recognition as a specialist/sub-specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Retention in the KMPDC register with a valid Practice License.
Valid Professional Indemnity Cover.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Must be compliant with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
