Role Overview
The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer (OCO) is responsible for conducting comprehensive ophthalmic assessments and managing routine eye conditions. The role involves providing clear diagnoses, developing treatment plans, and offering patient education. Additionally, the OCO performs specific surgical procedures within their approved scope and supports the clinical team in maintaining excellence in patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct ophthalmic assessments and manage routine eye conditions, providing clear diagnoses and treatment plans.
Surgical Procedures: Perform SICS/Phaco procedures within the approved scope for which the officer is credentialed.
Clinical Reviews: Conduct pre-operative and post-operative reviews to ensure patient safety and optimal recovery.
Care Coordination: Contribute to efficient and well-coordinated patient care through timely consultations, documentation, and communication with the clinical team.
Handover Management: Identify patients requiring surgical intervention and ensure a clear clinical handover to the booking office.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation.
Quality Improvement: Participate in clinical audits, Continuing Medical Education (CME), and quality improvement activities.
Outreach: Support outreach and cross-site service delivery where required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
Higher Diploma in Ophthalmology (COC-accredited).
Valid practicing license.
Desirable Qualifications
SICS / Phaco certification.
BLS / ACLS certification.
Outreach experience.
