The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is looking for a Legal Intern to join its team. This role is designed to offer support across various thematic areas of the Commission, contributing to its strategic direction through administrative, financial, programmatic, and legal assistance. The intern will work closely with Program Managers and team members to help foster a culture where human rights and democracy are entrenched in Kenya.
Duties and Responsibilities
Thematic Support: Assist in implementing the organization's operational plan as directed by Program Managers, including performing administrative tasks.
Fieldwork Assistance: Support fieldwork activities, including report writing, facilitation, training, and community mobilization.
Legal Affairs: Conduct legal research, prepare legal documents, and perform legal policy analysis for the legal affairs department.
Research and Reporting: Review and edit consultant reports and policy briefs; perform desktop research and develop quality reports on key issues relevant to KHRC's work.
Legislative and Media Monitoring: Analyze relevant bills and provide recommendations; monitor media reports and generate bi-monthly reports.
Event Organization: Assist in organizing trainings, conferences, or meetings and generate quality reports for these sessions.
Logistics Support: Prepare materials for fieldwork and pack activity materials as directed by Program Managers or Advisors.
General Support: Perform other duties as assigned by the internship committee or managers.

Strong planning and organizational skills with efficient work methods.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Passionate about human rights and empathetic toward individuals from all backgrounds.
Proactive and able to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Teachable attitude with a strong work ethic.
Requirements
A first degree in Law or a related discipline, or a recent graduate who has completed all coursework.
Mandatory: Applicants must be students who have finished their 4th year of study in Law and are awaiting graduation, or students who have completed the Kenya School of Law (KSL) and are awaiting admission to the bar.
