Junior Legal Officer

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

• Contract Management: Drawing and vetting contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to ensure full compliance.
• Documentation Support: Assisting in the preparation of contract documents, leases, and agreements between the office and other stakeholders, while monitoring legal obligations.
• External Liaison: Coordinating with external lawyers regarding all cases filed against the company and providing updates on legal developments.
• Legal Advisory: Giving timely updates to management on legal changes that affect company operations and advising on all operational legal matters.
• Policy and Compliance: Developing, implementing, and reviewing legal policies to align with existing legislation and monitoring statutory compliance.
• Risk Mitigation: Identifying legal risks across departments and implementing appropriate mitigating measures.
• Litigation Support: Receiving and acting upon court summons, pleadings, and demand letters, and preparing status reports for management.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
• A Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
• Admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
• Possession of a current Law Practicing Certificate.
• Active membership in the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
• At least 1 year of post-admission experience as a Legal Officer in a busy law firm and 2 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer.
