Our client, a rapidly growing retail chain in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a proactive and detail-oriented Junior Accountant to support daily financial operations across its stores. This position offers a great opportunity for candidates looking to build solid experience in retail finance, inventory management, and statutory compliance within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Record Management: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.
Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports including Profit & Loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
POS and Transaction Reconciliation: Handle daily store transactions and reconcile POS (Point of Sale) reports against cash, card, and mobile payments. Reconcile daily sales with bank deposits to ensure accuracy.
Inventory Control: Support inventory management through participation in stock-takes and reconciliation of physical stock with system records. Identify and report stock variances.
Accounts Payable: Verify supplier invoices against Goods Received Notes (GRNs) prior to payment processing and support accounts payable functions including supplier reconciliations.
Payroll Support: Assist in payroll processing including computation of wages, overtime, and commissions.
Statutory Compliance: Support the preparation and filing of VAT, PAYE, and other statutory deductions.
Budgeting: Assist in budget preparation and provide basic variance analysis.
Audit and Compliance: Ensure proper filing and maintenance of financial records; support audit processes by preparing required documentation.
Job Specifications and Qualifications
Certification: CPA Foundation or CPA Part I.
Education: Diploma or Professional Certificate in a relevant field.
Experience: Minimum 2 years’ accounting experience, preferably in retail or supermarket operations.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Industry Knowledge: Experience with POS reconciliation and inventory accounting is an added advantage.
