The Human Resource Manager for Agriculture is responsible for overseeing the human resource function within an agricultural context. This includes developing HR strategies that align with business goals, managing a diverse workforce comprising both permanent and seasonal staff, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and occupational health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
HR Strategy and Policy Development
- Develop, review, and implement HR policies and procedures.
- Align HR strategies with overall business goals.
- Advise management on HR best practices and labor law compliance.
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies across all departments.
Recruitment and Workforce Planning
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
- Develop workforce plans to support seasonal and permanent staffing needs.
- Coordinate hiring for farm workers, technical staff, and administrative personnel.
- Maintain updated job descriptions and staffing structures.
Employee Relations and Industrial Relations
- Manage employee grievances and disciplinary processes.
- Promote positive employee relations and workplace harmony.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and mediation.
- Liaise with labor unions (where applicable).
Performance Management and Training
- Oversee performance appraisal systems and processes.
- Implement performance improvement plans where necessary.
- Identify training needs and coordinate staff development programs.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives.
Compensation and Benefits Administration
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy.
- Ensure statutory deductions and remittances are compliant.
- Manage employee benefits programs.
- Conduct salary benchmarking and recommend adjustments.
Compliance and Occupational Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and industry regulations.
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation.
- Promote occupational health and safety standards across farm and processing sites.
- Support workplace inspections and audits.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- CHRP certification preferred.
- Membership with IHRM.
- Minimum 5–8 years’ HR experience.
- At least 3 years in a managerial role.
- Experience managing large or seasonal workforce preferred.
