Head of Legal & Compliance

Responsibilities

• Lead the identification, assessment, and management of legal and regulatory risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
• Provide strategic legal counsel to senior management to guide corporate decision-making.
• Oversee alignment with legal frameworks, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Ensure full compliance with all statutory and regulatory obligations.
• Implement and maintain the Legal & Compliance Department’s SOPs and internal controls.
• Prepare quarterly reports to the Group General Counsel regarding risk and governance.
• Lead contract management, including drafting, negotiation, and execution of commercial agreements.
• Provide legal oversight on corporate transactions, procurement, and conveyancing.
• Establish and manage the company’s compliance framework and obligations.
• Oversee AML, KYC, and due diligence processes.
• Manage disputes and litigation, including oversight of external counsel.
• Support debt recovery processes and enforcement actions.
• Lead training initiatives to ensure staff awareness of legal requirements.
• Manage the Department’s financial planning and budgeting.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from a recognized University.
• Minimum 7 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE) as an Advocate in Kenya.
• Relevant industry experience in a busy legal department for a corporate institution; experience in the insurance sector is preferred.
• LLM or any relevant Master’s Degree.
• Certified Secretary (CS) qualification is an added advantage.
