The Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accurate capture, maintenance, and reconciliation of financial information. This role works closely with the Finance Business Partner, FinOps Controller, and Finance Manager to ensure that financial data is recorded efficiently and completely. The position also involves managing accounting staff as the organization scales.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Maintenance: Maintain the Chart of Accounts according to group guidelines and ensure the proper structure of the accounting system.
Compliance: Ensure the General Ledger and Trial Balance comply with IFRS standards, internal policies, and statutory requirements.
Journal Management: Review and approve journals, ensuring a strict segregation of duties.
Transaction Recording: Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely with appropriate supporting documentation.
Reconciliations: Perform monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations, ensuring all reconciling items are resolved within agreed timelines.
Financial Analysis: Conduct analytical reviews of the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet to identify trends, risks, or anomalies.
Cost Center Management: Maintain departments, cost centers, and branch structures within the accounting system to ensure correct allocation.
Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audit processes by preparing necessary documentation and financial analysis.
Asset Management: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), including onboarding, tagging, disposals, and transfers. Reconcile the FAR with the General Ledger and review depreciation.
Tax & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and submit statutory returns and tax payments to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) accurately and on time. Maintain statutory registers.
Accounts Payable: Capture supplier invoices accurately and reconcile supplier accounts monthly; support procurement approval and payment planning.
Complex Accounting: Perform calculations for IFRS 16 lease accounting, loan facility amortizations, and withholding tax calculations.
Reporting & Budgeting: Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, as well as annual budgets and forecasts.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional Qualification: CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent professional qualification.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar finance role, preferably within a high-growth environment.
Systems knowledge: Experience with accounting systems such as Xero, Netsuite, or similar platforms is highly advantageous.
Technical Skills: Strong financial reporting, analytical, and numerical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across teams.
