The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Manager to coordinate and perform financial management and other activities to ensure successful implementation of the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) in Kenya. S/He will perform accounting and financial duties for the STRIDES project including audit functions to assure accuracy and compliance with internal and external regulations. S/He will select and apply established procedures appropriately and update the supervisor on status of the projects as required.\n\n### Key Responsibilities\n- Prepares and monitors monthly expenditures for projects by analyzing financial data and providing monthly reports to internal and external stakeholders.\n- Serves as a principal source of information on fiscal policies and procedures including federal funding rules and advises management on existing options or alternatives to make appropriate business decisions.\n- Establishes and manages accounting record keeping systems and procedures for tracking and reporting.\n- Assists with reviewing invoices and preparation of annual project proposals for renewal.\n- Works with project leaders to resolve problems associated with monthly expenditures and project budgets.\n- Communicates with management and project leaders regarding proposal development and monitoring of budgets to ensure projects adhere to budget constraints and meet completion.\n- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.\n\n### Required Qualifications and Experience\n- Associate’s degree in Accounting/Finance or its International Equivalent.\n- Typically requires 3+ years of accounting or finance experience.\n- Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred.\n- Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English, and be fluent in the host country language as appropriate.\n- Articulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.\n\n### Skills and Competencies\n- Strong knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), budgeting and fiscal control theories and practices.\n- Working knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures.\n- Excellent oral and written communication skills.\n- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.\n- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.\n- Demonstrated spreadsheet and database software skills.\n- Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.\n- Ability to work well with others and verify and analyze financial data, identify errors and prepare reports.\n\n### Physical Demands and Technology\n- Typical office environment with the ability to sit and stand for extended periods.\n- Ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen and performing repetitive keyboard work.\n- Ability to lift/move up to 5 lbs.\n- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams) and standard office equipment.\n- Ability to travel domestically less than 10%.\n\n### How to Apply\nInterested and qualified candidates should apply online via the FHI 360 career portal at .
