Role Summary
The LOSHAK Field Data Supervisor will support electronic data collection and device-based measurements. This position is responsible for managing CAPI systems, field tablets, paradata monitoring, bio-sample data workflows, and device-based data collection including UPAS V2+ air quality monitoring devices and Actigraph devices. The role ensures that field data systems and monitoring devices are properly deployed, maintained, and integrated with survey workflows while supporting real-time monitoring of data completeness and quality in compliance with the study protocol and the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
Key Responsibilities
CAPI System Management
- Configure and maintain electronic data collection platforms such as Survey CTO, ODK, REDCap, or Blaise in collaboration with the Data Manager.
- Deploy research instruments to field devices (tablets and laptops) and manage questionnaire version control.
Tablet and Field Equipment Management
- Prepare, distribute, and maintain field devices and accessories.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues while maintaining an accurate equipment inventory and asset tracking system.
Device-based Data Collection Support
- Support the deployment and monitoring of specialized devices like UPAS V2+ air quality monitors and Actigraph wearables.
- Ensure all devices are installed, calibrated, and retrieved according to the study protocol.
Data Synchronization and Management
- Monitor daily synchronization of survey and device data to ensure secure transfer to central servers and resolve any upload errors immediately.
Field Data Quality Monitoring
- Monitor timestamps, GPS coordinates, interview duration, and submission patterns to flag protocol deviations.
- Generate data quality reports for resolution by technical working groups.
Bio-marker Sampling and Consent Support
- Support the collection of dried blood spots (DBS) and physiological measures (anthropometry, blood pressure, etc.) by ensuring device functionality and unique identification.
- Assist in ensuring the complete and proper administration of informed consent for all stages of data collection.
Training and Documentation
- Provide technical assistance and training to enumerators and supervisors on electronic data collection systems and device handling.
- Maintain thorough documentation of device deployment, system configuration, and data quality checks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Public Health, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting electronic data collection systems for field research.
- Proven experience training field staff on data collection tools and protocols.
- Proficiency with CAPI platforms such as ODK, SurveyCTO, REDCap, or CSPro.
- Experience managing laptops, tablets, and digital field equipment.
- Knowledge of data management and quality control procedures in large-scale health or social science studies.
- Familiarity with ethical considerations and informed consent processes in research.
- Experience with data security and confidentiality protocols.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring and wearable devices is an added advantage.
