Job Description
The County Government of Kisumu is seeking to recruit five (5) Family Medicine Specialists. The Family Medicine Specialist is a senior medical position dedicated to providing comprehensive and continuous healthcare for individuals and families. This role involves integrating clinical, biological, and behavioral sciences to manage health across all age groups, genders, and body systems, ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes for the community.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide expert clinical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions.
Manage both acute and chronic illnesses with a focus on comprehensive and evidence-based patient care.
Perform specialized surgical procedures relevant to the scope of family medicine.
Offer leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight within clinical departments and healthcare facilities.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care pathways and referrals.
Ensure adherence to healthcare standards, patient safety protocols, and quality of care regulations.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential patient medical records and documentation.
Participate in health promotion, disease prevention initiatives, and community health programs.
Requirements for Appointment
Must be a Kenyan Citizen.
Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Principal Medical Officer or in a comparable position.
Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery (BChB) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
Master's Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MChB) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate qualification in Family Medicine (M. Med Family Medicine) from a recognized institution.
Certificate in a Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
Registration Certificate by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council (KMPDC).
Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council (KMPDC).
Retention in the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council register.
Specialist recognition certificate from the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
Professional indemnity cover.
Proficiency in computer applications skills.
