Plainsview Hospital, one of the largest nursing homes in Kiambu County, has served the community from its Ruiru location since 1999. We are looking for an Executive Housekeeper to lead our housekeeping department and ensure the highest standards of clinical hygiene and facility maintenance.
Role Overview
The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the housekeeping department. The primary objective is to maintain a sterile, safe, and clean environment across all hospital facilities to support patient safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Housekeeping Operations & Environmental Hygiene: Manage daily cleaning schedules and ensure the facility meets clinical hygiene standards.
- Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Implementation: Enforce IPC protocols to minimize hospital-acquired infections.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance Management: Ensure adherence to health regulations and internal quality standards.
- Waste Management & Environmental Safety: Manage medical and general waste disposal systems in compliance with environmental laws.
- Staff Leadership & Workforce Management: Direct, train, and supervise the housekeeping team.
- Resource & Equipment Management: Efficiently manage cleaning supplies, machinery, and inventory.
- Laundry & Linen Services Governance: Oversee the hospital’s laundry operations to ensure constant availability of clean linen.
- Interdepartmental Coordination: Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams for seamless service delivery.
- Emergency Environmental Response: Lead environmental cleanup and safety protocols during emergencies.
- Decision-Making: Manage departmental thresholds regarding resource allocation and operational priorities.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Management, Nutrition, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in housekeeping management within a hospital or large institutional setting.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and waste management systems.
- Certification: Certification in IPC or housekeeping management (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
