Job Description
The Embroidery Machine Operator is responsible for operating industrial embroidery machines to stitch names, logos, initials, or decorative designs onto various items including garments, uniforms, and household materials. The role involves technical setup, monitoring machine operations for quality assurance, and performing basic maintenance to ensure high production standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operate machines to embroider name/logo, initials, or decorative designs on garments, household articles, materials, and uniforms.
Stitch cording, braid, or emblems on materials or garments following approved designs.
Input logos into embroidery machines using digital media (e.g., floppy disks/digital files).
Observe sewing operations to detect defects in stitching and identify machine malfunctions.
Notify supervisors of any machine malfunctions immediately.
Use a hand iron to smooth embroidery areas of materials.
Repair defective embroidery or fill in blanks left by the machine.
Hoop and center material accurately to prepare for processing.
Manage machine power cycles (on/off procedures).
Perform threading and replacement of bobbins.
Execute logo framing, ranging, machine loading, offloading, and stitch monitoring.
Continuous monitoring of product quality through strict quality control.
Monitor machine sounds to identify potential mechanical problems.
Clean the machine and the workspace at the end of every shift.
Maintain the Machine Maintenance Log Book and perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Must have a KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education).
Vocational training certificates or short courses in embroidery or machine operation are an added advantage.
Minimum of 1-2 years of working experience in the same position.
Skills & Experience Required
Machine Operation: Prior experience operating industrial embroidery machines, especially multi-head machines, is highly preferred.
Computer Literacy: Ability to load and interpret digital embroidery files and use basic computer controls on the machine.
Attention to Detail: Essential for ensuring quality, correct placement, and color accuracy of embroidery.
Basic Troubleshooting: Ability to detect issues (thread breaks, tension problems, misalignment) and perform routine maintenance.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, hoist garments, and manually adjust fabric.
Communication and Teamwork: For coordinating production schedules and reporting issues.
