Job Description
The Driver Lead at DHL is responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating all Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers' activity within the country. The role ensures that cost-effective and high-quality service is rendered to both internal and external clients in line with the DHL Supply Chain strategy. The Lead acts as the principal operational liaison between management and the driving team, fostering a culture of respect and high performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Ensure both internal and external customers receive the highest possible level of service and are treated with respect.
Maintain the availability of competent drivers to meet customer requirements at all times.
Lead and manage the driver team effectively.
Handle customer grievances or queries related to HGV drivers.
Act as the principal operational liaison between DHL Supply Chain management and the team.
Build trusted relationships with the control tower, workshop, and operational colleagues to ensure efficient execution of duties.
Appraise management on driver activities, challenges, and outcomes daily.
Work closely with driver trainers to improve team skills.
Enforce all DHL Supply Chain statutory and industry best practice obligations regarding driver management.
Verify delivery paperwork, briefing/debriefing reports, preposition checklists, and weekly timesheets for accuracy and timely filing.
Evaluate driver violation reports and implement appropriate measures.
Ensure compliance with company and local statutory obligations, including health and safety, quality, and Business Continuity Management (BCM).
Manage exception reports for night parking fees and other operational costs.
Design driver duty rosters to maximize availability while observing rest periods (offs, leave, sick offs) and controlling costs (6th & 7th day costs).
Monitor and report performance measurements, providing data for driver incentive schemes.
Propose corrective and preventive measures against risks to vehicular assets, consignments, and fuel.
Drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure contract fulfillment and operational excellence.
Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
Identify, develop, and empower team members to perform at their best.
Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture following the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the logistics industry.
Proven experience in driver leadership and people management.
Experience in project management.
Proficiency in fuel tracking and monitoring systems.
Ability to manage and plan biweekly driver toolbox meetings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a drive for continuous improvement.
Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant logistics management tools.
Deep understanding of supply chain needs within a logistics environment.
