Marriott International is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee property maintenance and engineering operations. The Director provides a high level of property maintenance knowledge and has overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection. This role is accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. The successful candidate will develop and implement strategies that deliver products and services which meet or exceed the needs and expectations of guests and employees while maximizing financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Managing Engineering Operations and Budgets
Determine how Engineering is performing against budget and highlight areas of concern to leadership.
Manage the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and electrical systems in accordance with SOPs.
Administer service contracts to support property needs.
Ensure fire crew has complete understanding of all procedures, equipment, and alarms.
Coach and support the engineering leadership team to effectively manage controllable expenses (wages, heat, light, power, water, tools, supplies, vendors, etc.).
Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with the brand business strategy.
Oversee execution of long-term preventative maintenance and 10-year asset protection plans.
Supervise construction to ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary guidelines.
Maintaining Engineering Standards
Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
Maintain property life safety systems including firefighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems.
Ensure building and equipment licenses, permits, and certifications are current.
Ensure property policies are administered fairly and consistently.
Managing Profitability
Manage areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements and payroll progress reports.
Participate in the development of department capital expenditure goals and the budgeting process.
Prepare weekly and period-end P&L critiques.
Educate staff on the impact of department operations on the overall property financial goals.
Human Resources and Leadership
Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably; follow disciplinary procedures according to SOPs.
Utilize employee feedback and an “open door” policy to identify and address concerns.
Resolve guest problems and complaints effectively.
Ensure regular communication takes place regarding daily activities and business objectives.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a technical field (BA/BSc/HND).
Proven expertise in engineering operations.
2 - 3 years' experience in a similar role within a luxury hotel environment.
Marriott experience is an added advantage.
