Role Overview
The Deputy Medical Coordinator supports the Medical Coordinator through delegated tasks and responsibilities, including defining, leading, and coordinating the entire medical scope of the mission. This role ensures the quality of medical care provided to the target population, aiming to improve their overall health and living conditions. The Deputy Medical Coordinator fully assumes the Medical Coordinator's responsibilities in their absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Support the Medical Coordinator in defining, monitoring, and updating the medical content of the MSF country policy and annual plan. This involves scanning health needs and translating them into objectives, priorities, and resources.
- Representation: At the request of the Medical Coordinator, represent MSF before third parties on medical issues, ensuring a positive public image and alignment with mission interests.
- Project Management: Contribute to the definition and update of country policy, annual plans, and budgets. Monitor project implementation, assist medical teams in drafting proposals, and collaborate on medical reports.
- Team Leadership: Coach, train, and motivate mission teams to align with MSF values and ethics. Ensure staff capability to achieve MSF quality standards through induction, briefing, and evaluation.
- Pharmacy Management: Collaborate with the logistics department to ensure a quality supply of drugs and medical material by reviewing medical orders and monitoring stock levels.
- Health & Security: Assist in defining and implementing staff health and security policies for international and national staff, monitoring their physical and mental well-being.
- Data Analysis & Monitoring: Analyze project indicators quarterly through DHIS2 and SITREPs to ensure evidence-based decision-making. Conduct field visits to monitor medical activities.
- Quality of Care: Support teams in implementing the roadmap to enhance quality of care, with a specific focus on the Dagahaley project and the new Mombasa project cycle.
- Emergency Response: Lead the medical component of initial explorations and ensure appropriate responses to epidemiological surveillance data as part of EPREP (Emergency Preparedness).
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education:
- Essential: Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Desirable: Training in Tropical Medicine or Public Health.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in similar positions within MSF or other International NGOs (Essential).
- Languages: English (Essential) and Swahili (Desirable).
- Technical Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel, and Internet).
- Core Competencies: Strategic vision, leadership, people management and development, service orientation, and teamwork.
