Chairperson, National Civil Aviation Administrative Review Tribunal

About the Role

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is seeking to recruit a qualified individual for the position of Chairperson of the National Civil Aviation Administrative Review Tribunal. This is a critical regulatory and administrative justice role established under Section 66 of the Civil Aviation Act CAP 394. The Chairperson will lead the tribunal in reviewing administrative decisions and resolving disputes within the civil aviation sector in an impartial and professional manner.

Key Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants to this position must be qualified to be appointed as a judge of the High Court. The applicant must therefore meet the following requirements:

• Education: Hold a law degree from a recognized university, or be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, or a professionally qualified magistrate, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction.
• Experience: Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic, or legal practitioner, or such experience in other relevant legal field.
• Eligibility Duration: Have held the specified qualifications for an aggregate period of at least ten (10) years, irrespective of whether that experience was gained in Kenya or in another Commonwealth Common-Law jurisdiction.
• Alternative Dispute Resolution: Qualification and experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) will be considered an added advantage.
• Leadership and Integrity: Must possess high moral character, integrity, and impartiality, meeting all the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
