The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is seeking to recruit a highly qualified individual for the position of Chairperson of the Land Acquisition Tribunal. This role requires an individual who meets the qualifications to be appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Kenya. The Chairperson will lead the tribunal in hearing and resolving land acquisition-related disputes with the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, and legal excellence.
Requirements and Qualifications
Pursuant to Section 133A (2) (a) of the Land Act CAP 280, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education: Hold a law degree from a recognized university.
Professional Status: Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a professionally qualified magistrate, or possess an equivalent qualification in a common-law jurisdiction.
Experience: Have at least ten (10) years’ experience as a distinguished academic, legal practitioner, or in another relevant legal field.
Aggregate Qualification: Must have held the required legal qualifications for at least ten (10) years in aggregate, whether gained in Kenya or in another Commonwealth Common-Law jurisdiction.
Specialized Skills: Qualification and experience in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) will be considered an added advantage.
Integrity: Must demonstrate high moral character, integrity, and impartiality, meeting all requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
