Kisii University is seeking a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Associate Professor in the department of Pathology. The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic leadership, conduct high-quality research, and mentor both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This role involves teaching, supervising research projects, and contributing significantly to the university's administrative and community service mandates.
Responsibilities
Conduct advanced teaching and learning activities for university students in the field of Pathology.
Supervise and mentor postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) in their research projects and theses.
Produce and publish original research findings in refereed scholarly journals and university-level books.
Present original research at learned conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Contribute to university governance through participation in departmental matters, committee memberships, and academic advising.
Lead the development of research proposals aimed at attracting external funding.
Provide service to the community, as well as national and international professional bodies.
Ensure continued evaluation and improvement of effective teaching methods.
Requirements for Appointment
To be eligible for appointment to the position of Associate Professor, the candidate must have:
A Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D/ D.Phil.) from a recognized/accredited Institution.
MMed or MDS, and Specialist training.
A cumulative of three (3) years of teaching or research experience at university level since becoming a Senior Lecturer.
Research output points comprising at least thirty-six (36) points from refereed scholarly journals and/ or university level book, six (6) points from postgraduate students' supervision and two (2) points from publications in conference proceedings since appointment to the position of Senior Lecturer.
Evidence of continued evaluated effective teaching and successful supervision of graduate students.
Attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.
Evidence of recognition and registration by a relevant regulatory body where applicable.
Evidence of membership or affiliation to a relevant professional body where applicable.
Evidence of contribution to community, national and international service.
Evidence of contribution to University service through participation in Departmental matters, students’ academic advising, and School and University meetings and committee membership.
Evidence of having developed proposals that have attracted funding.
