Role Overview
First Assurance Kenya (a subsidiary of Absa Bank Limited) is seeking an Assistant Manager for Business Development specializing in Broker Business within the Corporate and Public Sectors. The primary objective of this role is to support and deliver targeted growth in the non-medical insurance business segment while maintaining high service standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Management
Broker Relations: Manage relationships with brokers to ensure the delivery of targeted premium outputs.
Pipeline Management: Oversee the business pipeline, including the processing and transmission of quotations to brokers within established Turnaround Times (TATs).
Service Excellence: Develop and operate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with brokers to provide differentiated service delivery.
Internal Collaboration: Adhere to interdepartmental service level standards in coordination with the underwriting team across various branches.
Cross-Selling: Actively champion cross-selling initiatives for corporate business and handle other assigned special projects.
Market Research: Collect and analyze market intelligence through research, industry publications, and networking to stay updated on market trends and competitor activities.
Financial Management
Targets: Deliver on financial parameters including Gross Written Premium (GWP), loss ratios, and cross-selling goals.
Debt Management: Manage broker debt in accordance with established company standards.
Expenditure Control: Monitor and control budgets for travel, corporate events, and promotional materials.
Brand Activities: Plan and allocate funds for brand management activities and promotional events as outlined in the annual calendar.
Operations & Compliance
Industry Standards: Stay current with insurance legislation, industry developments, and business unit knowledge.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all brokers meet licensing and onboarding requirements as per ABC Third-party Standards and other regulatory bodies.
Reporting & Representation
Statistics: Prepare accurate production reports and statistical data for management review.
Leadership Support: Represent the department in business reporting forums in the absence of the Head of Department.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field (e.g., Actuarial Science, B.Com Insurance, or Business Administration).
Experience: 7–10 years of experience in sales management and business development within the insurance industry.
Specialization: At least 5–6 years of specific experience in General Insurance, including time spent in a management role.
Professional Certification: Possession of (or significant progress toward) ACII/Diploma in Insurance (UK) or AIIK/Diploma in Insurance (Kenya).
